Dr. Meghan Barlow and Dr. Heather Dukes-Murray will be presenting at the 2019 Milestones National Autism Conference. They will review characteristics of children who most commonly miss diagnostic identification in early childhood, including girls, minority children, and children who are first diagnosed with another disorder, such as ADHD. They will also review diagnostic pitfalls that practitioners face, identify factors that lead to delayed diagnoses, and strategies to talk with parents about a second evaluation when autism had been previously ruled out. Throughout the presentation, Dr. Barlow and Dr. Dukes-Murray will provide evidence-based assessment strategies, interview techniques, and review profiles to help illustrate for participants possible symptom presentations that may result in a missed/delayed diagnosis.
