This summer, we will be running weekly social groups for children and adolescents ages 5-15 to encourage turning off the video games and screens, and spending time socializing with one another face-to-face! These groups will provide age-appropriate opportunities to learn and practice social skills in a natural environment with peers. Each week will be focused on one executive function skill, such as memory, planning, organization, emotional control, etc. Participants will get to practice that skill in a hands-on, play-based way with peers through board games, challenges, conversation topics, and more.
SOCIAL SKILLS TARGETS:
- Building friendships
- Keeping Friends
- Problem Solving
- Anger Management
- Emotional Regulation
- Communication Skills
- Perspective Taking
- Social Planning
- Handling conflict
These open groups will be held weekly for one hour at a drop-in fee of $40 each session. Sign-ups and payment must be made
at least 48 hours in advance of the group start time. Groups will be capped at 6 students per session and broken up by age group:
Groups will be run by Maggie Strippy, LPC, who has 7 years of experience as an intervention specialist working with children in both school and clinical settings. Rooted in a variety of evidence-based practices, your child will explore the fundamentals to building executive function skills while working on cultivating interpersonal connections with peers through play, problem solving, and natural social opportunities.
*All groups will take place from 10am-11am in the conference room on the 3rd floor of our office building, 20220 Center Ridge Road, Rocky River, OH 44116.
