Community-Based Summer Social Group- Ages 9-12

This two-part social group is designed for children who struggle with social anxiety and/or understanding the appropriate skills for behaving in a social setting out in the community. Rooted in evidence-based social emotional learning strategies, children will have the opportunity to learn and apply important executive functioning and social skills to find behavioral and social success in the community. Target skills will be flexible thinking, planning, social conversation and communication, manners, problem solving, impulse control and self-monitoring.

Participants will first attend one skill-building session held at Barlow &Adams Behavioral Health, which will focus on planning and preparing for the social outing that will take place the following day. Children will then put these skills into practice at a local community location. In order to attend the social outing, participants MUST attend the skill building session beforehand. Participants will need to be dropped off and picked up from the BABH office on the skill-building session days, and dropped off and picked up from the social outing location on the following day.

Wednesday, June 5th- Screening day (virtual 20 minute session between 1-3pm)
